Fussy cutting is very popular right now. We will go over a variety of techniques for fussy cutting your fabric for use in piecing, applique, and especially English Paper Piecing (EPP). We will cover what fabrics work best for fussy cutting and will practice creating a simple EPP sample that you can take home. This would be an excellent class to take if you are planning on taking any of our EPP classes (such as Lucy Boston or Brimfield Meadows & Blooming Star). Fussy cutting will take your blocks to a whole new level.
Note: Fabric and template kit must be purchased from the instructor at the time of the class for $5 (this is in addition to the cost of the class).

Lucy Boston was a British novelist who also loved to make quilts. Her most famous quilt pattern is Patchwork of the Crosses. With the resurgence of English Paper Piecing in popularity, this quilt pattern and others using the original cross block, now known simply as Lucy Boston, are showing up at shows and on many quilters’ bucket list. In fact, a Lucy Boston won best of show at the COQG Quilt Show this summer.
In this class, you will learn how to create templates, create EPP pieces, and sew them together using the shapes necessary to create the Lucy Boston block, while also becoming familiar with the various designs that use this very versatile block.

In this class, you will learn the basics on how to straighten fabric, properly use a rotary cutter and ruler to cut strips to make your first quilt blocks, and how to master that ¼” seam used in quiltmaking. In addition, we will learn to make various fundamental quilt blocks often used in both traditional and modern quiltmaking. This class does not cover binding or quilting.
