New Fall Fabrics Arrive

We will soon notice the summer season beginning to change..Indian Summer…my favorite time of the year.  The nights will be a little cooler and the days a little shorter.  What better time to start thinking about fall school clothes, quilts and decorating the college dorm.

 Saltbox Harvest

New from Deb Strain comes Saltbox Harvest.  The fabric line includes a panel with two Saltbox houses sitting under an oak tree, a bountiful harvest surrounds a small haystack, the oak tree filled with acorns and paired with vivid reds, oranges, browns and golds.     Download this free pattern from Moda   http://www.unitednotions.com/fp_saltbox-harvest.pdf

Christmas in July

Are you seeing visions of sugar plums dancing in your head, snowflakes softly falling outside your window, the smell of gingerbread cookies and warm cinnamon?  Yes, it does seem a little bit early to be thinking of Christmas; but it will be here in know time.  So now is a great time to start thinking about quilts, gifts and more!  Thursday morning we will kick off Christmas in July.  Of course there will be punch, snacks, take and make demos and door prizes!

We have lots of new Christmas fabrics to choose from.  One of my favorites, of course, is Basic Grey’s Fruitcake!  I love Basic Grey.  The pattern I picked is Verlinda Magby’s “Simply Sensational”, which showcases the large ornaments in a 12½-inch square-in-a-square block.   The quilt alternates the square in a squre block with a 9-patch, rail-fence and smaller square in square blocks.  For the most part you can make this quilt using fat-quarters…but you will need 5/8 yd of four or five focal fabrics, inner and outer borders.

Moda offers a new take on a a Dresdan Plate, I beleive it looks like Christmas Wreaths.  The quilt size is 72″ x 90″.    Download the pattern from Moda http://www.unitednotions.com/fp_fruit-cake.pdf

As always, you can be assured that Robyn Pandolph will give us a romantic fabric line for Christmas –  “Fancy Hill Farm”.  Prim Roses in Cherry Reds, Christmas Greens and Frosted Beiges.

Another choice might be the actual panel used in a 12 Days of Christmas quilt with coordinating fabrics.   Each block focuses on a different verse from the song the Twelve Days of Christmas.  Available for purchase @www:/okquiltworks.com.  You can also download the pattern from Moda     http://www.unitednotions.com/fp_12-days-of-christmas.pdf

Happy 4th of July

One of my favorite holidays is the 4th of July.  It always takes me back to my grandmothers’ farm and my childhood memories.  Cook-outs, watermelon, her secret homemade vanilla ice cream and of course, fireworks.  Hopefully, we can entice you with some ideas to make your Fourth of July a memorable one.

Who can resist this cute little apron featuring Uncle Sam decked out in red, white and blue?  Make a table runner of stars and flags to hang from a table or stitch a wall hanging.  From Art•to•Heart “Easy Does It Patriotic”.

Relax on your backporch and enjoy a stitchery project from Blueberry Backroads,  http://www.blueberrybackroads.blogspot.com/  “I Love America”.

Clothworks offers “America”.  Find a free pattern on their website.  www.clothworks.com .  We have the fabrics available on our website @ www.okquiltworks.com

Several of us fell in love with the Minick and Simpson’s fabric line, Bar Harbor from Moda.  The fabric feels soft, almost as if freshly dried on an outdoor clothesline, the colors definetly sing red, white and blue.  We fell in love with the quilt “Cabin on the Shore” and simply could not wait to make the model for the shop.  Kits will be available for purchase.
