It also makes it as easy as pie to match points – that is an added bonus! You’ll learn the basics of marking lines, sewing seams, pressing, and matching points.

The pattern we will use in class, Falling Charms, is designed for charm packs, but you may cut your own squares if you choose; either option is fine. One sample I will show in class is made with 2.5″ mini charms, which would make a fun table-topper.

Fussy cutting is very popular right now. We will go over a variety of techniques for fussy cutting your fabric for use in piecing, applique, and especially English Paper Piecing (EPP). We will cover what fabrics work best for fussy cutting and will practice creating a simple EPP sample that you can take home. This would be an excellent class to take if you are planning on taking any of our EPP classes (such as Lucy Boston or Brimfield Meadows & Blooming Star). Fussy cutting will take your blocks to a whole new level.

Note: Fabric and template kit must be purchased from the instructor at the time of the class for $5 (this is in addition to the cost of the class).

Kim and Nisha of Brimfield Awakening hit the jackpot with their ingenuity and creativity when they spotted an old quilt at the Brimfield Antique Show in Massachusetts, recreated the quilt’s block using English Paper Piecing (EPP),the Brimfield block was born and Brimfield Awakening was off and running full speed. Since then, they have released many more EPP blocks based on Brimfield vintage quilt finds. We will be constructing two of their newest blocks – Brimfield Meadows and Brimfield Blooming Star.

Brimfield Meadows is an extremely versatile block and we will go over many of the variations that have been created and shown on Instagram, including the very clever Poinsettia block – you can then pick which variation you would like to make in class. Brimfield Blooming Star has just been released and we will also create one of these blocks.

In this class, we will briefly review how to create templates, use already made acrylic templates, and then focus on layouts, creating straight and curved EPP pieces, and sewing them together using the shapes necessary to create the two blocks.
