![]() Meet Sandy Sandy is a long-time employee at Oklahoma Quiltworks; she has been with the shop for 13 years. She is a mother and grandmother. Sandy and her husband Dave have two sons, Todd and Brian. And between them they have five grandchildren: Andrew, 6; Nicole, 4; Nicholas, 3; Rachel, 1; and Kristin, 1. Sandy began quilting more than 25 years ago when she and Dave lived in the Washington D.C. area. The bicentennial increased interest in quilting and Sandy, new in the area, enrolled in a beginner class at a local quilt shop. "My first quilt was a queen size sampler with each piece cut with scissors from a template and hand pieced," she recalls. "Hooray for rotary cutters!" The best part of quilting for Sandy is designing with color and pattern. She has one quilting project that she's looking forward to working on. "I have a medallion quilt in mind (it's been there for 10 years)," she laughs. "I got it on a cruise for our 25th anniversary. My family says I may finish it for our 50th anniversary!" Sandy is active in the lives of her grandchildren and is also involved in a "whiz kids" after school mentoring program. A teacher at heart, she also teaches adults and children at her church. |
