Meet Mauri

A strange thing happened to Mauri almost six years ago. She walked into Quiltworks and "caught the bug!" That's right, just seeing the models and fabrics inspired her to take up quilting. And shortly after she joined the shop.

Mauri says her grandmother pieced quilts but didn't quilt. She did, however, give her a love and appreciation for the art of quilting. Mauri has since joined in several of Quiltworks' classes. She calls herself a "finisher." She enjoys the finished product and generally completes a quilt before moving on to the next one. "It's a sickness," she jokes!

Mauri and her husband Randy are the proud parents of two young adults: Jacob and Amanda. Their newly redecorated home is the inspiration for her latest quilting projects. She's making quilts to go with the new paint and furniture.

In October, Mauri traveled with 16 women to Kenya, Africa. They worked with young, unmarried mothers, teaching them skills with which they can earn a living. Many of the women have AIDS and most have been abandoned by their families. Mauri taught quilting and doll making (shown left), an adventure she was very excited about.

When we asked Mauri if she had a recipe to share, she gave us some great advice instead: call 55P-IZZA so you have more time to quilt!
