What stretch of
highway is the most famous in the United States? For many of us
it can only be the fabled Route 66. The highway that once
spanned two-thirds of the nation was officially christened in
1926 and flowed from Chicago across 2,400 miles, three time
zones and eight states before ending in Santa Monica.
Route 66 has
been depicted in books, movies, songs and even a television
series. But what stood out over the years are the icons -- the
mom and pop businesses -- that dotted the road from beginning to
end. Many of them are stills standing today.
It is with these
icons that Verlinda Magby started the design for "Memories on
Route 66." Each of the eight states is represented with the
famous icons that dotted Route 66. Verlinda worked with Kathy
Miller of Michael Miller Fabrics to design the fabrics for this
exciting block of the month project.
