I do love our beautiful leaves in the fall; as the leaves started turning into golds, oranges and yellows, I wanted to capture the color for a fall table runner. Debbie lives on a beautiful acreage filled with yummy sumacs, oaks and maples. She gathered these beautiful leaves on a cool, crisp autumn morning just as mother nature began bursting into fall.
Here is a quick and easy fun way to make a fall or winter table runner. First off, take a walk and gather your leaves. You can use almost any type of leaf, the big red one is from a hydrangea.
Pick your fabrics. I choose Moda’s toweling, that way you can make it what ever size you want. You will have to hem both the ends, a little whip stitch works just fine. Paintbursh Studio from Fabri-Quilt has some great Marbles. Don’t you see the leaves just popping out of the fabric?

To make the pattern, simply lay the leaves color side down on a scanner, cover with a sheet of white printer paper and print. You can also scan into your computer. I use Word to print a mirror image to reverse the applique pattern.
Once you have your pattern; trace to fusible webbing (of course I wouldn’t use anything but Soft Fuse, it’s wonderful). Cut out your leaves, arrange on your table runner, press and applique using your favorite applique technique.
