The Avalon Quilt

This modern quilt is perfect for showing off big bold prints, which might not showcase as nicely in a more traditional quilt. Squares and rectangles appear to be floating on a solid background while the thin strips of contrasting solid fabric adds balance and visual interest. I really love this quilt. I have seen it done with cream, grey, copper and navy backgrounds. The pattern can be found in the 2011 Quilt Festival Magazine. Debbie is using the “Echo” fabric line from Lotta Jansdotter for Windham. �

Garden Crossroads

Garden Crossroads, designed and pieced by Emilee Dube, features the fabric line Urban Cowgirl from Moda. The quilt is approximately 63″ square. Pattern coming soon!

Charming Kaffe

Who doesn’t love Kaffe Fabrics? They are always a big hit with us as well as our customers. Charming Kaffe designed by Gigi McEver combines 5″ squares, sashing and borders to make this a fun easy to make quilt. Pattern free with the purchase of fabrics.

Hearts and Flowers

February is such a fun month. Chocolate, flowers, hearts and knowing Spring won’t be far away. Barbara Chaffin has been having so much fun with the book from Need’l Love, Folk Heart Threads. I love the Heart Shaped Pillow. She also did a wall hanging; which could also be a pillow called Hearts A•Bloom. We are taking orders if anyone would be interested in a kit.

We hope your Holidays have been delightful; of course they have kept us all too busy with cooking, cleaning and wrapping gifts. It’s time to get back to the fun things we enjoy doing, Quilting!

There are lots of new things happening this year at the shop. Have you had time to check out the new website? We have modernized and with that, we are now able to give you an up- to-date look at what’s going on in the shop; new classes, new kits, fabrics, books and patterns and so much more. Let us know what you think!

New Block of the Months for 2012

We have several new block of the months that will begin early this year. Merry Merry Snowmen, My Favorite Things, Block of Seasons, and for the Kaffe Lovers, a new Kaffe Quilt is coming soon.

Merry Merry Snowmen

This 10-month block of the month program will begin in February of 2012. Each month you will receive the pattern and fabrics to complete that month’s block. The final month will include borders and binding. Fabrics will be from the Rouenneries Deux collection by French General. An embellishment kit including embroidery floss and buttons will be included with the block of the month. Cost is 23.95 each month.

Block of the Seasons – 4 Small projects – each quarter will bring a new, pre-selected wool kit based upon the upcoming season and pattern. Framed wall art, pillow, wall hanging or table topper. Construction is based primarily on hand work with either wool felt or felted wool and perle cotton or floss. January’s project will begin with a pillow, a palette of soft creams and pastels reflecting a pale winter landscape. Winter Blooms – $23.95 includes fabric for pillow and wools and floss to complete the project.

My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things starts this month and continues through December. Each month you will receive two blocks. The cost is $14.95 each month and does include binding. The book, Some Kind of Wonderful, is sold separately.

Calendula who?

My favorite season is Fall. I love the colors, the leaves, pumpkins, Halloween and Thanksgiving. It’s also my favorite time to quilt and embroidery. When I can put the two together, that is even better. I was hooked when I saw Crabapple Hill’s “Calendula” and “Which Witch’s Boot”. Both quilts use pieced blocks, coloring with colors and embroidery.

My Favorite Things

This fun new Block of the Month is from the book Some Kind of Wonderful. The new series will begin in January. I thought it would be fun to show you bits and pieces as Debbie begins her stitching journey on this twelve month block of the month. More details are sure to come as she stitches her “Favorite Things”.

What’s next, blue jeans, a daisy or maybe the sun?

The Elves have been busy!

…and with fall in the air, we have been busy making lots of new models, we hope you will find something that catches your eye. Kits are available for most of these quilts. I love this quilt, “September Song” was pieced and quilted by Mauri Richey, using the Fat Quarter Fashionista pattern. These fabrics, from the Joel Dewberry – Heirloom collection are reminiscent of a late fall afternoon.

McKenna Ryan’s Home Tweet Home is featured at the top of this picture. Patterns and kits are available. From right to left, “Summer House” is a Kalidescope using Moda’s Summer House fabrics. Treasures & Tidbits from Robert Kaufman, features Piece O’ Cake fabric and the pattern Off the Rail. LouLouThi fabric from Anna Marie Horner is using the pattern Off Track.

Yes, we finally have a break in the weather – Yeah! It’s in the mid-70′s and low 80′s. What a relief from our 60+ days of 105° weather and not too soon to start thinking of cool days ahead. Fun new Quilts to Inspire You

& get you into the mood for fall!

I’m sitting here watching the birds swarm the feeders after a long hot summer. The leaves are already turning gold…not sure if it is from the heat of summer or the beginning of a new season. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the warm summer days and cool evenings. It is also is a time for me to start thinking of what projects I can work on as my time outdoors becomes shorter. Here are just a few projects that might get you inspired.

I’m seeing Pink Elephants and It’s Not Even Noon! Debbie took an old pattern, “Take 5″, to make this adorable quilt filled with all the things we love, Pink Elephants, dots, circles and bubbly!. We have a kit available for this project.

Just in time for Halloween, “Scribble Monsters” from Clothworks. This easy weekend project will remind you of being a kid again. The fun characters look like they came right from a coloring book. We have a kit available for this project.

These fun pillows were made by Barbara Chaffin. The book Scandinavian Stitches offers over 21 projects for every season! I love the house and laundry on the clothesline. Barbara Chaffin will be teaching this fun class this fall, “Pick a Pillow“.

One of our customers, Linda Gaither, made this cute Monster Pillow. The pattern “Little Monsters” from one of my favorite designers, Don’t Look Now , includes directions for several different monster pillows or a full size quilt.

“Come Fly with Me“ strips and flying geese. Verlinda made this during a weekend trip to Texas. A kit is available for this project.

“Weekend in Paris”, “Babette” and “Margeaux” created by Mauri from the pattern “Bloom”. Mauri will be teaching a class for “Blooming Possibilities ” this fall .

Sandy Clapp made this fun quilt, “Year at a Glance”, from the book “Big fun with a little fabric”. The quilt features applique, piecing and embroidery. A kit is available for this quilt.

“It’s Jungle Out There” and “Hoo’s In the Forest”, made by Peggy Nasson – fun new baby quilts for any child.

A Thousand Pyramids

We will have the pleasure of having Cynthia Regone as a teacher on Friday, September 30th. She has been featured in Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting, Quiltworks Today, and various other magazines. Cynthia lectures and teaches throughout the United States; her specialty is using unusual combinations of color and fabrics. Her quilts have a distinctive appearance and have won many awards. With her first book “Colorful Quilts” being published in 2008, she has been very busy teaching, lecturing and producing new designs.

The quilt she will be teaching is 1000 Pyramids. When Charlice saw this beautiful quilt while on a family reunion trip, she fell in love with it, what a beatufiul quilt.

1000 Pyramids will be offered this fall at Oklahoma Quiltworks. This is a one day class offered on Friday, September 30th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The cost of the class is $45.00. Call the store to sign-up now or sign-up online after August 15h by logging onto our website at www.okquiltworks.com.

Brights! Raw Edge Applique! Amazing Quilting!

One of my favorite new designers is Australia’s, Kellie Wulfsohn, from Don’t Look Now! Her modern patterns give a new meaning to raw edge applique. The bright colored fabric choices make each design bright and cheery. Her machine quilting is to be envied by all of us who wish we could machine quilt using our household machines and her quilting method.

I picked “First day of Christmas” as a starting point. I found the pattern easy to understand and the raw edge applique quite simple. Of course, I sent my pillow top out to be quilted since I know I am not at that level of quilting.

Her new patterns are fun and whimiscal.

The Animal Alphabet would be great for any young child.

“Memories”

Look at the background, she took her favorite nursery rhyme stories and photo copied in black and white and printed on “Printed Treasures”. She then sewed the sheets together to use as a background for her applique. What a wonderful idea. I don’t think I will use Fairytales, but I do have a couple of books in mind that I will play around with.

I’m definitely going to do “From the Heart” and have traced all my patterns for “Oh Christmas Tree”.
