Santa Claus is coming to town in a stylish way! In this class, learn how to use the Mini QCR (Quick Curve Ruler) to create the curved edges of Santa’s cap and beard, as well as how to sew those curved edges together easily. We will also discuss ways to up-class this 28”x38” quilt using fancy quilting and a variety of embellishments. Once you learn how to use the Mini QCR, there are many patterns and books out there that use this very versatile and unique ruler.

 

Frosty Frolic Vintage Sack

This adorable embroidered wool sack is ready for Holiday Fun. Frosty is dressed in a vintage hat ready for skating on the pond. Hang him on your mantle and fill with surprises or from a door filled with garland. You will learn how to embroider the shapes to the sack fabric and sew the sack together to finish it off.

Dianne Lee (Appliqué Addict) will share her love of this fine hand needlework technique. She will share how to select fabrics to create texture & eye-catching visual interest, and how to layer pieces to reduce bulk. In the class, you will learn how to make thin stems, smooth curves, sharp points, circles and V’s. By the end of class, you will be looking for items to appliqué! This class is a great way to use up scraps and Charm Squares.

Fussy Cutting Workshop

Fussy cutting is very popular right now. We will go over a variety of techniques for fussy cutting your fabric for use in piecing, applique, and especially English Paper Piecing (EPP). We will cover what fabrics work best for fussy cutting and will practice creating a simple EPP sample that you can take home. This would be an excellent class to take if you are planning on taking any of our EPP classes (such as Lucy Boston or Brimfield Meadows & Blooming Star). Fussy cutting will take your blocks to a whole new level.

Note: Fabric and template kit must be purchased from the instructor at the time of the class for $5 (this is in addition to the cost of the class).

 

Lucy Boston

Lucy Boston was a British novelist who also loved to make quilts. Her most famous quilt pattern is Patchwork of the Crosses. With the resurgence of English Paper Piecing in popularity, this quilt pattern and others using the original cross block, now known simply as Lucy Boston, are showing up at shows and on many quilters’ bucket list. In fact, a Lucy Boston won best of show at the COQG Quilt Show this summer.

In this class, you will learn how to create templates, create EPP pieces, and sew them together using the shapes necessary to create the Lucy Boston block, while also becoming familiar with the various designs that use this very versatile block.

This is a 3-part class specializing in individual attention and hands-on training. In this class, you will learn the basics on how to straighten fabric, properly use a rotary cutter and ruler to cut strips to make your first quilt blocks, and how to master that ¼” seam used in quiltmaking. In addition, we will learn to make various fundamental quilt blocks often used in both traditional and modern quiltmaking. This class does not cover binding or quilting.
